Re “Readers assail Council’s push to turn off Flock cameras” ( Oct. 24 ) and “Election could be factor in Flock’s fate” ( Oct. 26 ): Two letter writers make very good points on why we should keep Flock cameras operating: One states that local law enforcement can cite dozens of felony convictions with the help of Flock cameras, yet protesters cannot cite how these cameras harmed them personally. Another writer suggests that instead of removing these cameras, we up the consequences for those who use the cameras inappropriately.
The San Diego Police Department strongly supports keeping Flock cameras. In Monday’s paper, Police Chief Scott Wahl said that in addition to solving hundreds of cases, Flock cameras helped solve 10 homicides just last year.
Oh, my gosh, keep these cameras up! I value the safety of all people over this perceived invasion of privacy. Tighten the guardrails and up the penalty for misuse, but don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater!
