The Padres finished the season with a 91-71 record before emphatically dispatching the Chicago Cubs in the wild-card round. Their season came to an end against the eventual World Series-winning Milwaukee Brewers , though the Padres were agonizingly close in the four-game ALDS. First baseman Ty France hit a high fly ball in the ninth inning that hit a cable at American Family Field for an out in their 3-2 loss in Game 1. Star closer Mason Miller was unable to secure a two-inning save in a 4-3 loss in Game 2.
This has become a familiar refrain for the Padres. They have been competitive, reaching the postseason in five of the last seven seasons, but only reached the NLCS once. The Padres have to find a way to take that next step forward and bring their first World Series title to San Diego.
One of the biggest changes with the Padres will happen in the owner's suite. The Padres were sold to Kwanza Jones and Jose E. Feliciano, with the new ownership saying that they are "all in" and are committed to the organization.
