A Vikhroli court has issued non-bailable warrants (NBWs) against former Vikhroli senior inspector Suryakant Naikwadi and then DCP (Zone VII) Vijaykant Sagar for repeatedly failing to appear before it in a case arising from a housing society resident’s complaint.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate PV Hingne issued the warrants on October 14 under Section 175(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), directing the Vikhroli police station’s senior inspector to arrest the officers and produce them before the court. Warrants were also issued against members of the managing committee of Anasuyasoot Cooperative Housing Society Limited in Kannamwar Nagar, Vikhroli East.
The case stems from resident Sameer Waman Gawankar’s allegation that police dismissed his complaint against the society’s managing committee as ‘civil in nature’ instead of acting on it.
It was bound to happen, as the police officers did not appear before the court on six occasions. So, the court has issued non-bailable warrants against the then senior inspector of Vikhroli police station, Suryakant Naikwadi, and then DCP Zone VII, Vijaykant Sagar,” Gawankar’s legal representative, KVJ Rao, told Mirror.
