Maharashtra is facing mounting weather-related challenges, with unusually high October temperatures across the Konkan coast, drought affecting grape cultivation in Jalna, and water conservation measures continuing in Mumbai and Pune.
Mumbai continues to reel under hot and humid conditions on Tuesday, October 13, with Santacruz recording a maximum temperature of 38.2°C and Colaba reaching 36.5°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of possible heatwave conditions, with maximum temperatures forecast to touch 37°C. The all-time October record of 38.6°C, set on October 17, 2015, remains unbroken.
Meanwhile, Mumbai’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stands at 84, placing it in the satisfactory category, as per the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) SAMEER app. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions against the heat and humidity, especially during the afternoon hours.
The spell of intense October heat over Mumbai has persisted since last week, with little relief expected in the coming days. A Mumbai Rains weather update warned that temperatures are likely to remain high throughout the week and advised residents to avoid outdoor activities between 11 am and 4 pm, when the heat can be particularly intense.
