Belapur: The National Security Guard (NSG) and Navi Mumbai Police conducted a joint anti-terror mock drill at Reliance Corporate Park in Ghansoli and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) premises in CBD Belapur. During the exercise, NSG commandos neutralised eight dummy terrorists and demonstrated the detection and defusal of two improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The exercise began at 3 pm on Thursday, November 5, and continued until 4 am on Friday, November 6. Simulated terrorist attack scenarios were created at both establishments to assess the preparedness of security agencies and their ability to respond to a real terror threat.
Following the simulated attacks, local police, Quick Response Teams (QRT) and other security agencies rushed to the locations and coordinated their response. NSG commandos engaged the dummy attackers and successfully neutralised all eight. Demonstrations were also conducted to detect and defuse two IEDs planted as part of the exercise.
Deputy Commissioners of Police Vijay Kharat (Zone-I, Vashi) and Amit Kale (Zone-II, Belapur), along with Assistant Commissioners of Police and senior police inspectors, took part in the exercise. A total of 64 police officers and 389 police personnel participated.
The NSG contingent was led by Akshay Gaikwad, team leader of Team-2 IC Laksh Team, along with eight officers and 53 commandos.
