Weather Report: Mumbai’s October heat is keeping residents on edge, with temperatures climbing well above seasonal levels and the prospect of rain becoming a major talking point. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alerts for hot and humid conditions, while independent weather observers are watching for a possible change in conditions over Maharashtra in the second half of October.
Mumbai recorded around 38°C on Tuesday, October 13, following a maximum of 38.2°C on Monday, October 12, according to figures cited by independent weather observers. The Tuesday reading was described as the city’s second-hottest October day in 11 years. With the heat and coastal humidity making daily life uncomfortable, residents are keen to know when the city might finally receive some rain.
The IMD’s yellow alert for Mumbai covers Wednesday and Thursday, October 14 and 15, warning of hot and humid conditions. The warning period extends to October 16 in the latest forecast reported on Wednesday. Temperatures could begin easing towards the weekend if thunderstorm activity develops over parts of South Konkan, although the timing and intensity of any rainfall remain uncertain.
