Mumbai Police have externed 13 repeat offenders from city and its suburban districts for two years as part of preventive action to maintain law and order and curb criminal activities, officials said on Saturday.
The orders were issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North Zone-3, under Section 56(1)(a), (b) and (bb) of the Maharashtra Police Act, following a review of the individuals' criminal records and legal proceedings.
According to the police, the individuals were allegedly involved in offences including assault, extortion, threats with deadly weapons, drug peddling and other repeated cognisable offences.
The police said their activities had created fear among residents, women, senior citizens and business owners in their respective areas.
The officials also noted that fear of retaliation could discourage victims from approaching the police .
