The Government Railway Police (GRP), Mumbai, rescued a one-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) railway station and arrested a woman within 24 hours of the incident being reported, officials said on Wednesday.
The child was sleeping beside her parents near platforms 12 and 13 when she was allegedly taken by an unidentified woman in the early hours of October 16, 2026.
The family, originally from Dharashiv, had missed their train and fallen asleep on a steel bench at the station. Taking advantage of the situation, the woman allegedly took the child between 4 am and 5.25 am.
A case was registered at CSMT Railway Police Station under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Following the incident, senior railway police officials formed four special investigation teams, which worked with the Local Crime Branch to trace the child.
