MUMBAI: Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has increased the number of weekday services on the Aqua Line (Metro 3) by 46, taking the total daily trips from 291 to 337 from November 2.
The increase comes amid a steady rise in ridership on the corridor. Average daily ridership, which stood at around 2 lakh in June, has now increased to 2.35 lakh, prompting MMRC to augment services to ease overcrowding and reduce commuter waiting times.
Peak-hour frequency has also improved, with the gap between trains reduced from 4 minutes 50 seconds to 4 minutes 25 seconds.
Following the commencement of operations on the entire Aarey JVLR-Cuffe Parade corridor, the number of daily trips was increased to 271.
It was subsequently raised to 282 on June 23 and 291 on September 28. With the latest addition, the number of weekday services has increased to 337.
