Mumbai is experiencing an intense spell of October heat after the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon, with temperatures remaining well above normal for the second straight day.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri for today.
The IMD said maximum temperatures in several parts of Maharashtra have risen by 3-4 degrees Celsius over the past two days, according to a report by News18.
Its seasonal outlook also suggests that temperatures across much of the country are likely to stay above normal during October, raising the possibility of a hotter-than-usual month in Maharashtra.
Mumbais mercury touched around 37°C for the second consecutive day. On Friday, Colaba recorded a maximum temperature of 37.4°C, which was 5.6°C above normal and the highest October maximum at the station since at least 2013. On Saturday, Colaba recorded 36.5°C, while Santacruz touched 37.4°C, around 5°C above normal.
