The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will administer deworming tablets to 19.2 lakh children aged one to 19 years across Mumbai on October 27 as part of the National Deworming Day campaign aimed at reducing the risk of anaemia and improving children's health.
According to a press release issued by the civic body on Monday, October 26, the BMC has set a target of administering deworming tablets to 19,20,015 children across its jurisdiction. The campaign will be conducted through schools and anganwadi centres, with the civic body's public health department making arrangements across Mumbai.
Health workers, Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and anganwadi workers have been trained to support the campaign and administer the doses to eligible children, the BMC said.
Deworming is a public-health measure aimed at controlling intestinal worm infections, which can affect children's nutritional status and overall well-being. Such infections may contribute to nutritional deficiencies and anaemia, and can affect children's growth and development. Regular deworming, along with hygiene and sanitation measures, can help reduce the burden of intestinal worm infections.
