Mumbai: A partially decomposed corpse dumped inside a gunny sack washed ashore in Versova on Thursday evening. The unidentified man had wounds on his neck and his hands and legs were tied.
Versova police registered a murder case against an unidentified person. They are trying to establish the man’s identity based on ‘Om’ and ‘Basant Lal’ tattooed on his right hand. They are also checking missing person complaints filed at police stations across the city. They believe the man was aged 30-35. The corpse was sent to Cooper Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Police suspect the killer threw the man into the sea in the hopes of destroying evidence.
In Feb this year, a partially decomposed corpse without legs, which too was wrapped in a gunny sack, was found at Juhu beach. Police said they are working on establishing the person’s identity. Preliminary checks indicated that a man of a similar age had gone missing from Malwani in Malad around that time.
In April 2022, the body of a 19-year-old Goregaon woman was found stuffed inside a gunny bag at Versova beach. The woman, Sonam Shukla, was allegedly strangled with a wire and her hands and feet were tied up. Versova police said her parents had filed a missing person complaint at Goregaon police station.
