SHARES The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ( BMC ) plans to facilitate the construction of more than 52,000 flats in Mumbai over the next three years under its slum redevelopment scheme. The civic body has issued work orders for 24 projects and finalised developers for nine additional schemes, marking progress in the redevelopment of eligible slum settlements across the city.
According to a senior official from the BMC's property department, work orders for the nine newly allotted projects are expected to be issued within the next one to two months.
The BMC aims to complete all the projects within three years from the commencement of construction. Developers will be responsible for arranging temporary or alternative accommodation for eligible residents during the redevelopment process. This may include providing rental housing until the new homes are ready.
The official said that the eligibility of residents would be determined through a detailed scrutiny process and inspections conducted at the respective BMC ward offices.
Each eligible resident will receive a flat measuring more than 350 square feet, as per the official's statement.
