Mumbai: A 53-year-old worker died in Andheri’s Majas area near MIDC after a passing BEST bus struck the open door of a parked poultry tempo, causing the door to rebound and hit him on Wednesday. MIDC police arrested the bus driver, Ashok Shinde (49), in a case of causing death due to negligence. The deceased, Farid Shaikh, was unloading chickens from the parked tempo when the incident occurred.
A police officer said the bus was sent to Majas Depot for an RTO inspection, and the bus driver and conductor were summoned to the MIDC Police Station for questioning. “The driver, Shinde, was arrested and later released on notice served,” said the officer.
An MIDC police officer said Shaikh succumbed to shock as the injury he suffered was not severe. He died while undergoing treatment 12 hours after the incident. “The BEST driver, Shinde, has been booked under the BNS sections for death due to negligence, rash driving and under the Motor Vehicle Act for dangerous driving. He did not flee from the spot,” said the officer.
