Residents near Amazon’s proposed data centre in Mumbai are opposing the project over concerns about water and electricity supplies, noise and property values. The 54-acre facility is part of Amazon’s planned USD 21 billion investment in India’s AI infrastructure by 2030. More than 1,000 residents say they were not adequately consulted. Amazon maintains that the facility will use water-free cooling and a dedicated power supply. The protests come as India attracts major investments in AI infrastructure from Amazon, Microsoft and Google, while similar projects face opposition elsewhere.
