Reported by internetfreedom.in
X has told the Delhi High Court that the takedown reports filed in the Delhi Police’s name against IFF and SFLC.in appear to be fake, and that it has complained to the police and will not act on them. The Court recorded the statement and disposed of our petition with liberty to return if needed.
On 6 November 2026, the Delhi High Court heard Internet Freedom Foundation v. Union of India , W.P.(C) 16671/2026, our challenge to two “Illegal Content Reports” submitted to X in the name of the Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), Delhi Police. The reports sought the removal of six of our posts, comments on and reposts of such posts, and of our entire X account, @internetfreedom, for alleged defamation of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). SFLC.in’s petition against the same reports, [W.P.(C)16671/2026], was heard with ours, and Senior Advocate Akhil Sibal appeared for both of us. X submitted that, on an internal investigation, the email from which the reports were submitted appears to be fake, that it has filed a complaint with the Delhi Police, and that it is not likely to take action on the reports at this stage. On Mr Sibal’s submission, the Court recorded X’s statement and disposed of both petitions in those terms, with liberty to approach the Court afresh if any action is taken against our accounts or posts.
