The University of Delhi's (DU) Hindi Department could not conduct its scheduled PhD admission interviews on October 28 after student organisations, including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU), staged a protest over alleged irregularities in the admission process. The organisations raised concerns over the short notice given to shortlisted candidates and the alleged lack of adequate interview opportunities for eligible applicants.
The controversy follows a notification issued by the Hindi Department on the evening of October 27, asking shortlisted candidates to report for interviews at 9:15 am the next day. Candidates were given less than 24 hours to make travel arrangements and prepare for the selection process, raising concerns among applicants travelling from outside Delhi.
The protest was held outside the Hindi Department, where students demanded a fair and transparent admission process. DUSU president Yash Dabas questioned how candidates from different parts of the country could reach Delhi within 18 to 20 hours of the notification being issued. Students also said that their concerns had not received adequate responses from the department.
