Delhi will prohibit vehicles registered outside the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi that do not meet Bharat Stage-VI (BS-VI) emission standards from entering the capital from November 1 to January 31, 2027, under its winter pollution-control framework.
The restriction could affect more than 10 lakh vehicles in neighbouring National Capital Region (NCR) cities, including Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, according to transport department estimates reported by the media.
Electric vehicles (EVs), CNG vehicles, emergency service vehicles and vehicles engaged in specified government or sovereign duties are exempt from the restriction, according to the notified framework.
The restriction is based on a vehicle's registration location and emission standard, rather than its age alone. Delhi-registered vehicles are not covered by this particular entry restriction, although other applicable pollution-control and end-of-life vehicle rules continue to apply.
The restriction could have a significant impact on daily commuters travelling to Delhi for work, education, business and other purposes from neighbouring cities.
