NEW DELHI Qutab Road, Chirag Delhi and Bara Tooti Chowk are among the 10 locations identified as persistent traffic congestion hotspots in Delhi, with commercial activity, roadside parking, freight movement, construction work and poorly designed junctions emerging as major contributing factors, according to an analysis by ASTraM (Actionable Intelligence for Sustainable Traffic Management) shared exclusively with The Hindu.
Delhi air ‘very poor’ with AQI reading of 364 https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Delhi/delhi-air-very-poor-with-aqi-reading-of-364/article71677336.ece Qutab Road recorded the highest average daily congestion length among the 10 locations, at 59.10 km, followed by Chirag Delhi (42.
57 km), Bara Tooti Chowk (38.90 km), Lothiyan Marg–Church Road (34.44 km) and Kalindi Kunj (30.76 km). Senior traffic police officers and personnel deployed on the ground told The Hindu that the increasing number of vehicles on roads with limited width are a major cause of congestion.
They also pointed to junction-related bottlenecks and other local factors. Srinivas Ganji, Service Area Leader at Arcadis, which developed and deployed ASTraM in partnership with traffic police authorities in India, said the findings indicated that congestion could not be attributed to traffic volume alone.
