The Delhi government has approved the urbanisation of 48 villages under Section 507(a) of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957, bringing the remaining rural villages in the capital into the urban planning framework. The move follows the Delhi Development Authority's approval of the proposal earlier in 2026 and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's approval in September. The change is intended to support coordinated planning, civic infrastructure and development regulation. However, urbanisation does not automatically approve construction or guarantee immediate infrastructure upgrades, which will require further planning and permissions.
