Delhi Development Authority has expanded dust-control operations in Dwarka and Narela with mechanised road sweeping, water sprinklers and an 11.8-km misting network as the capital’s air quality is expected to remain very poor to severe in the coming days.
In Narela, DDA has engaged two mechanised road-sweeping machines for roads with a 20-metre right of way. Seven water sprinklers have also been deployed for dust suppression across roads and vulnerable locations.
Dwarka’s misting network now covers a running length of 11.8 km through 270 poles. This includes a newly completed and functional 3-km extension in Sector 8, where 66 poles have been installed. The system continues along the central verges of master plan roads.
Additional coverage includes a 30-metre road around the Malaria Institute, where 26 poles have been installed, road no. 226 with 24 poles and road no. 202 with 16 poles, according to a DDA official quoted in the report. Each new pole is fitted with 30 misting nozzles.
The misting system operates for 10 to 15 minutes every hour during two daily periods: from 7am to 11am and from 4pm to 8pm. DDA has also tendered the deployment of seven water sprinklers in Dwarka. The authority said the sprinklers are making regular rounds across central verges, roadsides and other vulnerable points.
