The Delhi Police detained Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke after they served him a notice prohibiting him from holding the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Connaught Place on Friday. Wearing a white T-shirt with a photograph of Mahatma Gandhi, Dipke stepped out of the Karol Bagh house of Anish Gawande, spokesperson for the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) around 4.
50 pm. Five minutes later, he was picked up. Several media personnel and a group of police officers had been standing outside the house. As soon as Dipke stepped out of the building, television crews tried to speak to him. While talking to them, he walked towards the road, where two inspectors, along with around a dozen other police personnel, stopped him from proceeding further.
I am alone. Why are you stopping me?” he asked. He then took out the Tricolour and unfurled it before police personnel pushed him into a police van and took him away. Police sources said Dipke was taken to Jaffarpur Kalan police station, where he could be placed under preventive detention for 24 hours.
In a live video on the CJP’s Instagram page earlier in the afteroon, Dipke was heard telling a police officer, among those who came to serve him the notice: “Humne to bola nahi protest karenge… hum toh Tiranga lehrayenge. Woh be allowed nahi hai? (We didn’t say we will protest… we will just wave the Tricolor.
