Controversy over obscene dance at religious event: Organisers publicly apologise after locals protest; deco
Reported by Bhaskar English
A large number of devotees and local residents had gathered for the programme. However, the playing of Bhojpuri songs and the subsequent dance performance by invited artists angered those present, leading to protests and a commotion at the venue.
During the programme, Bhojpuri songs were played from the stage, following which the invited artists allegedly performed an inappropriate dance.
Devotees and residents objected to the performance, saying such a programme was inappropriate during Shravan. Strong protests were raised at the venue, with people demanding that the performance be stopped immediately.
Dindoli has a sizeable population of people who have migrated from North India, including communities familiar with Bhojpuri culture.
The incident nevertheless triggered anger among devotees who had gathered for the religious programme, with residents questioning the organisers over the choice of performance and the alleged lack of decorum.
